POSITION OVERVIEW

The ARPA for the Arts Assistant is a newly created part-time position that will support the ARPA for the Arts Lead with communications, application review, and artist/arts organization support for RAC's ARPA for the Arts grant awards. The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds are federal funds that the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis (RAC) has received to support the recovery of the St. Louis arts and culture sector.

The ARPA Assistant is responsible for pre-reviewing grant applications related to the administration of ARPA funds and helping to maintain a pop-up location for artists and art organizations to engage with RAC staff and Commissioners. As a part-time employee of RAC, this position is funded through March 31, 2027, using ARPA dollars allocated by the City of St. Louis to RAC.

The essential responsibilities for this position are as follows:

  • Reviews grant applications and verifies eligibility criteria prior to grantee receiving grant payments and final reports documents
  • Communicates with grant applicants regarding the status of their application and provides feedback and technical assistance on the grant application as needed
  • Ensures compliance with local and federal requirements of the RAC contract with the Community Development Authority and US Department of the Treasury
  • Attends special events as a RAC Ambassador and shares information with the broader community about ARPA for the Arts and RAC
  • Writes and creates various communications for RAC's ARPA grantmaking activities, including but not limited to email communications, special events, webinars, social media posts, etc.
  • Works onsite and hosts all guests that visit RAC's ARPA for the Arts pop-up location at City Foundry
  • Ensures the successful completion of the community outreach and technical assistance deliverables as assigned by the ARPA for the Arts Lead
  • Provides logistic and administrative support for all events such as receptions, artist talks, workshops, etc. at pop-up location
  • Supports exhibitions by assisting with the installation and de-installations of artworks, ensuring proper handling and care, labeling and organizing
  • Performs business operations and administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, responding to emails, maintaining office supplies, updating gallery calendars, and managing correspondence
  • Maintains pop-up location leasing standards by keeping it clean, organized and presentable
  • Supports the ARPA social media and marketing initiatives by fielding questions and assisting with content creation

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma required, Associate's degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Prior experience in grant management, administration, or related field preferred
  • Prior experience with special event management and customer service preferred
  • Knowledge of St. Louis area elected officials and government structure a plus

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Strong written, verbal, and oral skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills – positive attitude and enthusiasm for Arts and Culture is a must!
  • Ability to build and develop internal and external relationships with individuals, groups, and communities of diverse backgrounds to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong self-motivation with the ability to organize and execute multiple projects, such as gallery exhibition set up, social media campaigns, and meeting with artists to discuss ARPA funding
  • Ability to handle confidential information with a high level of discretion.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient with social media plus, but not required Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $22 - $25 per hour. This is a part-time, non-exempt position offering 15-25 hours maximum per week.
